Frequently Asked questions
Asset Technology is a UK-wide IT lifecycle and asset management partner, helping organisations securely manage, optimise, and recover value from their IT assets — from deployment through to end of life. Our core services span IT Asset Management (ITAM), refurbished IT & circular procurement, IT Asset Disposal (ITAD), data security & compliance, IT redeployment & repair, and IT resale & value recovery. Operating from our secure Manchester facility, we combine governance, security, and sustainability under one roof to help corporate, public sector, education, and global organisations reduce risk, cut costs, and meet ESG objectives
We support corporate, public sector, education, health, and global organisations from our secure Manchester facility — from individual businesses managing a routine refresh to large-scale, multi-site IT estates. Whatever the size or sector of your organisation, our services scale to fit, backed by fully auditable, compliant, and environmentally responsible processes throughout.
Yes. Alongside our ISO 27001 information security certification, we're registered with the ICO for data protection and meet the standards of the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, so healthcare and public sector organisations can be confident their IT assets and data are handled to sector-appropriate standards.
Absolutely. Our data centre decommissioning service handles everything from equipment removal to secure data destruction. We minimise disruptions, follow strict security protocols, and recycle or refurbish assets whenever possible.
Yes. We hold an Environment Agency T11 waste exemption for the repair and refurbishment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, and we're registered with the Environment Agency as an upper tier waste carrier, broker and dealer. We also hold ISO 14001 accreditation. Our WEEE-compliant processes minimise landfill waste, reusing or recycling components to reduce e-waste and protect the environment.
Yes. We're registered with the Environment Agency as an upper tier waste carrier, broker and dealer, and we hold a T11 waste exemption specifically for the repair and refurbishment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) at our Stockport facility. Both are renewed and kept current, so you can request evidence of either as part of your own supplier due diligence.
Sustainability Reporting measures your environmental impact by detailing carbon footprint reduction, e-waste diversion, and resource savings. It helps stakeholders see your commitment to ethical IT management and supports ESG goals.
Our services — ranging from IT Asset Disposal to WEEE-compliant recycling — directly reduce e-waste, carbon emissions, and overall environmental impact. We also offer detailed sustainability reporting, including carbon avoidance figures, to help you track and showcase progress.
ITAD is the secure process of disposing of outdated or redundant IT hardware. At Asset Technology, we mitigate environmental impact by recycling or refurbishing devices wherever possible, while ensuring full data protection and regulatory compliance.
We use accredited data wiping software (UK Government and NATO approved, and compliant with NIST SP 800-88 and IEEE 2883 standards) alongside physical shredding and crushing down to a 6mm particle size for hardware that can't be securely wiped. Destruction can be carried out on-site or off-site with full chain-of-custody documentation. All data destruction is fully GDPR-compliant, and we issue a certificate of proof.
Data wiping (also called data erasure) uses certified software — approved by the UK Government and NATO, and compliant with NIST SP 800-88 and IEEE 2883 — to overwrite a device's storage so no data can be recovered, while leaving the device itself intact and ready for reuse or resale. Data destruction is physical: shredding or crushing the drive down to a 6mm particle size so it can never be used again. We choose the right method based on the condition of the asset and your compliance requirements, and issue a certificate for either.
Yes. We offer bespoke on-site data destruction using specialised equipment, ensuring complete data sanitisation or shredding directly at your premises for maximum convenience and security.
Standard volumes are processed within 7 working days of us receiving your assets. Certificates of Erasure or Destruction are issued within 48 hours of completion, and larger or high-volume projects are delivered to timelines agreed with you upfront.
Yes. Every asset we process for data destruction or erasure comes with a Certificate of Destruction (or Erasure), plus a Customer Asset Breakdown and full audit trail, so you have complete, auditable proof of compliance for every device.
We issue a GDPR-compliant Certificate of Destruction or Erasure for all destroyed or wiped data — typically within 48 hours of completion — ensuring complete traceability. Our processes are overseen by ISO 27001 standards, meaning your data is safeguarded at every stage.
Refurbished devices offer cost-effective, eco-friendly solutions backed by warranties and our 14-Day Money Back Guarantee. Choosing refurbished can deliver up to 60% savings across your IT estate compared to new hardware, and each refurbished laptop saves approximately 225kg of carbon emissions and 190,000 litres of water. Every device is fully tested, cleaned, and quality-assured before resale, extending its life cycle and aligning with your sustainability goals.
Absolutely. Every refurbished device comes with a 12-month warranty as standard, plus our 14-Day Money Back Guarantee for complete peace of mind. If you need longer cover, we also offer an optional extended 3-year warranty at an additional cost — ideal for larger deployments or devices you're planning to keep in service for longer.

Once collected, equipment is brought to our secure 12,000 sq ft facility in South Manchester, registered within 48 hours, and assessed.
